The Project Development Objective (PDO) is to design, finance, build and operate a utility-scale 500 MW solar energy facility and battery energy storage solutions for Namibia and contribute to strengthen institutional capacity to facilitate scale-up of such technologies on a commercial basis in Guinea. The economic challenges are real, but this project can help economically, reduce poverty and create jobs. An affordable and dependable energy supply is a requirement for economic growth. The political stability of Guinea is a great benefit in order to attract investors.

The Project Development Objective (PDO) is to design, finance, build and operate a utility-scale 500 MW solar energy facility and battery energy storage solutions for Guinea and contribute to strengthen institutional capacity to facilitate scale-up of such technologies on a commercial basis in Namibia. The system will be built in 5 blocks of 100 MW and after completion of the PV plant, the storage facility will be built.

NISPCertified

There is a good case to be made for positive impact, such as reducing harmful air emissions, of deploying innovative renewable energy generation and storage technologies. Given this, it is equally important that such innovations necessarily require better risk management than conventional approaches as explained below.

Key issues pertain to the use of advanced and new technology – handling of potentially hazardous chemicals and material (in solar panels, etc.) – as well as conventional impacts of construction of heavy infrastructure – relating to ground development, changes to land use, health and safety concerns for the workers on – site as well as other users of the area, and facilities like roads that the project would use for construction period transport as well as operation and maintenance.

Most of these Environmental impacts are likely to be site-specific and reversible in nature where, mitigation measures are put in place through safeguards tools and can be managed to reduce these negative impacts of the interventions. The NISP (Nature inclusive Solar Park) certification (BRL K 11007) will reduce negative impacts and seek positive impact on Nature, Biodiversity, Water management and landscape integration and technical connection issues.
